How to use

  1. 1Paste your raw AI agent output, terminal logs, or copied command lines into the left editor.
  2. 2Choose a quick preset (Extract Shell Commands, Strip Indentation, Clean Terminal Logs, or Clean Code Snippet) or toggle specific cleaning rules below.
  3. 3Inspect the live cleaned preview on the right and view character reduction statistics. Toggle "Strip Leading Spaces" in the header to instantly remove indentation.
  4. 4Click "Copy Cleaned" to copy sanitized, ready-to-run text directly to your clipboard.

Frequently asked questions

Why do copied terminal commands often fail with "command not found: $"?
Tutorials and CLI outputs frequently prefix commands with "$" or ">" to indicate standard user or subshell privileges. When copied directly into a shell, the terminal interprets "$" as part of the command binary name instead of a prompt indicator. This tool strips leading "$", ">", "❯", and "user@host:~$" prompts so commands can be executed immediately.
What are ANSI escape codes and why do they clutter copied text?
Terminals use ANSI escape codes (like \x1b[32m for green text or \x1b[0m for resets) to display colors, bold styles, and cursor movement. When output is copied from some terminal emulators, CI/CD logs, or AI agent tool runs, these raw bytes are pasted as ugly literal text (e.g. ^[[32m). Our cleaner strips all 16-color, 256-color, and Truecolor ANSI escape sequences.
Can this tool remove line numbers from copied code blocks?
Yes. When you copy code snippets from websites, IDEs, or grep output, lines often begin with line numbers like "12: ", "12 | ", or " 45 ". This tool detects and strips leading line numbers while preserving your actual code indentation.
Does this tool send my logs or commands to a server?
No. The cleaning logic runs 100% client-side in your browser using local JavaScript regex engines. Sensitive terminal logs, server paths, tokens, and proprietary code never leave your machine.
How do smart quote replacements help developers?
Word processors, Slack, and AI chat applications frequently auto-convert straight ASCII quotes (' and ") into typographical curly quotes (“ ” and ‘ ’). Pasting curly quotes into a terminal or code compiler causes syntax errors (e.g., SyntaxError: invalid character). The "Normalize Smart Quotes" filter automatically converts curly quotes into standard programming ASCII quotes.
How does removing leading spaces fix broken Markdown rendering?
In Markdown specifications (CommonMark and GitHub Flavored Markdown), any line indented with 4 or more leading spaces is automatically rendered as a raw monospaced code block (<pre><code>). If you copy text, lists, or headers from chat windows or web pages with accidental 4-space indentation, Markdown will fail to format headers, bold text, or badges. Turning on "Strip Leading Spaces" strips all leading indentation so your Markdown renders cleanly.
